Those who suffer from anxiety disorders experience such severe stress and fear that it interrupts their daily quality of life. Anxiety disorders are a collection of mental disorders that are categorized as panic disorders, social anxiety disorders, phobias, and generalized anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders don't just produce panic, fear, and uneasiness, but they also cause sleeping problems, cold or sweaty hands and feet, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, dry mouth, the inability to stay still and calm, numbness in hands and feet, nausea, muscle tension, and dizziness.
Research now shows that the CBD in cannabis may offer an alternative source of relief for anxiety patients. Both human and animal trials have revealed CBD has anxiolytic-like effects. In one study, CBD was able to significantly reduce anxiety, cognitive impairment, and discomfort in social phobia patients before they were forced to simulate a public-speaking situation. In addition, cannabinoids inhibit fatty acid amide hydrolase, the anandamide-degrading enzyme, which in turn reduces stress-induced anxiety. Some researchers attribute CBD's anxiolytic-like effects to the cannabinoid's interaction with CB1 receptors, but others have found it's CBD's activation of the 5-HT1A receptors or CBD's action on the limbic and paralimbic areas of the brain that produces these effects.
