Patients who suffer from cancer frequently suffer from symptoms of fatigue. Because cannabis is often associated with sleep-inducing side effects, many patients will avoid the plant. That being said, if choosing the right strain, cannabis can actually provide energizing relief and help patients fight this fatigue.

Because strains high in THC promote sleepiness, those high in CBD or containing equal parts of both work to do the opposite. One PubMed study from 2004 found equal parts of THC and CBD reduced sleepiness and promoted wakefulness. Another study from Israel found synthetic cannabis products also provide relief from fatigue caused by chemotherapy. Because some of these products are approved in the US, this is excellent news for patients in prohibitionist states who do not have access to natural cannabis. In the study, out of 56 patients who reported debilitating fatigue, 51 patients experienced relief after using these products.
