Chronic pain is estimated to effect one in five adults and is treated with addictive pharmaceutical opiates that have negative and at times very serious side effects. Cannabis offers patients a natural alternative to conventional medications by safely providing anti-inflammatory and analgesic relief, making it a powerful player in combatting today's opioid abuse epidemic.

A 2008 study by Ethan Russo found "Cannabinoids may offer significant 'side benefits' beyond analgesia... These include anti-emetic effects [anti-nausea and vomiting] well established with THC, but additionally demonstrated for [the cannabinoid] CBD." Later in 2014, Israeli investigators found vaporized cannabis successfully treated otherwise untreatable nerve pain in a small group of human patients by reducing pain intensity by 45 percent within 20 minutes.
