Brain inflammation is characterized by brain, and sometimes spinal cord, swelling and it can be the result of a viral or bacterial infection. The conditions can be so serious that they can lead to coma or death. There are two major types of brain inflammation: Encephalitis, which occurs when the brain itself swells, and meningitis, which occurs when the membranes covering the brain called meninges become inflamed.
Researchers are beginning to consider cannabis a key player in treating brain inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory properties and neuroprotective effects. Cannabis can also provide pain relief thanks to its various cannabinoids and terpenes, making it not only an effective treatment in reducing inflammation, but also in providing alleviating discomfort from severe pain and stiffness.
Unfortunately, there is still very little clinical research surrounding this topic, and most of the testimonies attesting to cannabis' ability to treat brain inflammation are anecdotal. We hope to see more research conducted in the near future. This information has been provided by Whaxy and approved by our Chief Medical Officer.
